Whenever a major honors show approaches, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition completely in 2014
- A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
- Just some logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
